Design and Technology Curriculum Intent

In Design and Technology, Food and Nutrition and Product Design, we actively encourage self- confidence and character through the development of essential life skills. Students are encouraged to work independently, to develop skills of communication, empathy and to problem solve. Students experience a range of materials and ingredients as they progress through a coherent curriculum programme based around the acquisition of essential practical skills, and knowledge, to prepare them with the essential life skills for here and now and for later life.

Students are encouraged to develop their imagination and to design using materials and ingredients with creativity and flair; to adapt and to be resourceful and mindful of the many factors and pressures affecting consumer choice. Through being presented with challenges and problem solving tasks, students in Design and Technology are encouraged to think about the ever changing world and the increasing focus on technological developments carefully balanced against key moral, ethical and environmental pressures.
