Child Development
Child Development Curriculum Intent
Students will build and develop their character in Childcare by developing their confidence to recognise how a child's development can be promoted through play. They will have access to information about highly successful childcare settings to analyse their day to day operations and interactions.
Students will develop their knowledge and understanding of how adults working with children need to know the patterns of development because this helps them decide what types of toys, resources and activities will be suitable and safe for them to play with. Students' knowledge will help them to identify how adults can support children at different ages. Students will observe and evaluate a number of strategies and skills used in Early Years Practice settings to promote a child's development.
Students are challenged to use their imagination and work independently to plan their own activities which are suitable for specific age ranges in order to meet their all-round needs and areas of development. Students are encouraged to use critical, ethical and logical thinking to compare and analyse the effectiveness of settings on a child’s holistic development.
