Drama Curriculum Intent
As a department we aim to provide students with key subject knowledge, social skills and performance skills from year 7. Most students don’t study Drama specifically at KS2, but most will have some experience in being involved in a performance at some stage. With a board and ambitious curriculum we aim to spark students' imagination with opportunities for creative thought in every lesson. Students are encouraged and taught how to give and receive constructive feedback in all lessons. These critical thinking skills are transferable to all other areas of the curriculum as we encourage self reflection in all areas of their conduct.
We are passionate about providing students with a variety of skills to improve subject knowledge alongside self development. All students are encouraged to push themselves out of their comfort zone and we try to incorporate as much challenge as we can, whilst maintaining confidence and providing a safe space for failure. (Character) We incorporate a variety of styles of performance to enhance wider cultural knowledge. Students are introduced to a wide variety of scripts at KS3 to support the whole school reading skills initiative. As a department, we have entirely changed the curriculum since 2017.
Every lesson in the department is created by the department, no lessons are purchased. This is to better provide a bespoke program of study for the students we have in the classroom at the time. Schemes are adapted and evolve over time to suit learner needs. Drama is a subject that is inclusive and attainable for all of our students. SEND students can access this curriculum comfortably inside and outside the classroom with our extra curricular clubs.
