History Curriculum Intent

History has a unique position within the St Helena curriculum, enabling all of our students, including PPG and those with SEND, to understand the modern world. History is about using the past to make sense of the present and shape our future. We want our students to develop a love of learning and curiosity about the past as part of a culture of inquiry and discovery, and to develop their character and imagination.

Our students will acquire not only historical knowledge but also an awareness of politics, different cultures and religions, as well as empathy for others. Students will develop skills of critical analysis and thinking, ethical judgement, communication, literacy, evaluation and research. Furthermore, through the exploration of key historical concepts such as causation, consequence and significance, our History students will be equipped with the necessary tools to succeed in their future careers.
