English

 

Here is a summary of work that can be completed during the first two weeks of school closure for English. Please check Class Charts for more details and work set by individual  teachers.

Years 7 and 8

Creative writing

Write a short story of 500 words starting with the lines- A little after midnight came a strange sound from over the sea....

 

Reading

Read a novel and write a review on the following: plot, themes, characters, key moments and language.

 

Year 9

Exam questions on An Inspector Calls and Power and Conflict poetry. Students have been provided with copies of the exam papers.

 

Year 10

English Literature Paper 1 and Paper 2 exam practice. Students have been provided with copies of the exam papers.

 

Year 11

English Language Paper 1 and Paper 2 exam practice. Students have been provided with copies of the exam papers.

Years 7 and 8

Students should log on to www.hegartymaths.com Class teachers will have set work that is appropriate for your child’s class.

 

Year 9

Students should log on to www.hegartymaths.com Class teachers will have set work that is appropriate for your child’s class. Work will focus on the following topics:

Higher tier - Ratio revision, perimeters and areas of 2D shapes and compound shapes. Nets, plans and elevations. Percentages of quantities, percentage increases and decreases. Financial Maths, compound interest and simple interest best buys. Distance time graphs, velocity time graphs and quadratic expressions. 

Foundation tier- Substitution in formulae. Plotting and reading co-ordinates. Solving one, two and three step linear equations. Four operations with fractions. Calculations involving circumference and area of circles. Reading and plotting bar charts, line graphs and frequency polygons.

 

Year 10

Students should log on to www.hegartymaths.com Class teachers will have set work that is appropriate for your child’s class. Work will focus on the following topics:

Higher - Sketching all types of graphs and being able to identify key points such as turning points and real roots. Using a compass and a pencil to construct particular triangles or to show the LOCUS in different practical situations. Complete calculations which involve direct and inverse proportions. 

Foundation - Solving basic equations. Solve inequalities and be able to present pictorially. Using a compass and a pencil to construct particular triangles or to show the LOCUS in different practical situations. Present direct proportions graphically and perform direct proportion calculations.

 

Year 11

Students should log on to www.hegartymaths.com Class teachers will have set work that is appropriate for your child’s class. Students have also been provided with exam practice papers to complete.

Years 7 and 8

Space Project

Log into https://www.doddlelearn.co.uk/app/login

Work through each of the activities on Space. 

After you have gone through each of the activities, you must choose one planet. Complete a project on the planet including the following pieces of information:

a) the selected planets place in the solar system

b) conditions on the planet (temperature, atmosphere, gravity, availability of water, phases of the moons the planets may have

c) what each of the following words means and how long they are for the planet of your choice: day, month, year.

 

How you present the information is entirely up to you. You could do a poster, a booklet, Powerpoint presentation or even a story.


 

Year 9

Scientific vocabulary, quantities, units, symbols and nomenclature

Work through each of the activities on Microscopy (Biology), The Particle model (Chemistry) and Current, Resistance and Potential Difference (Physics). 

After you have gone through each of the activities, you should complete the practical quiz for each topic.

 On completion of work set in Doddle, log into https://www.senecalearning.com/ and complete the topic quizzes set.


 

Year 10

Work through each of the activities on Human Reaction Times (Biology), Electrolysis (Chemistry) and elasticity (Physics). 

After you have gone through each of the activities, you should complete the practical quiz for each topic.

On completion of work set  in Doddle, log into https://www.senecalearning.com/  and complete the topic quizzes set.

 

Year 11

 

Revision for Paper 1 and Paper 2 in Biology, Chemistry and Physics 

 

Science Google Classroom should be used to access all revision for Science GCSEs. Resources shared include revision Powerpoints, revision booklets, past GCSE questions and mark schemes for Paper 1 and paper 2. Revision resources for Chemistry are available on Seneca to check understanding.

 

If students have not accepted the invite (sent September 2019), they should use the code dx2tnms

 

Seneca learning web site - https://www.senecalearning.com/ Students have been given a class code shared by their teacher.

 

Students should aim to complete one hour of Seneca Learning per day. This could be broken down into 15 minute sessions.
